10-30-18

In class today we talked a lot about the next test and how it will be towards the middle of next week and it will focus a lot on the World Fact Book, I think its a great idea to incorporate the use of the World Fact Book into the class and more importantly the test. I like how we have class discussion instead of just doing some pointless worksheet. It makes me think about the topic and what we are learning about more.

We went over our last blog for Quarter one, looking at other students interesting facts found using the CIA World Fact Book. I believe that CIA World fact book is a very useful tool and for future projects I will one hundred percent use the site. There are so many facts and resources found on the site that many teachers could just use the website to teach a course

After Searching through the World Fact Book, I have found five interestin facts. The first is that Kenya is almost twice the size of Nevada, this was very interesting to me because on the maps it does not look that big. The second fact is that the Median age rate in Kenya is about 19, this is very shocking me because the world fact book said it was a country "on the rise" economically, so i thought the age would be a little bit higher because of the figures in the countries making it rise right now. I did not expect the median age to be so low. The third fact is the Japan has the 2nd highest median age rate with 47, i was expecting it to be a lot lower, with many younger kids working in factories help drive their economy, I guess i just expected it to be lower. The 4th fact is the German has a frequent threat of flooding which surprised me a lot because most of Germany's borders are Land and not a lot of water. The last fact is that Germany is only three times the size of Pennsylvania, as a huge economic and very populated country i really thought Germany was a much bigger country then it is.

Today in Class we went over more rates and learned all about statistics from the CIA and some of the statistics make some sense and they do not. We started talking about some of the poverty and war stricken areas of the class and it is really sad because i wish i could something about it and its just so sad you cannot do anything about it. I guess at the end of the day you just have to pray and hope everything goes okay.

10-23-18

Today in Class we really just touched on the same things as last class. We talked more upon why Monaco has such a higher life expectancy then the USA. And we concluded it was like this because of many ways, Monaco is a small country were the very rich Europeans live, however it does not have cities or large populated areas and the United States does. Cities like Detroit, Baltimore & Chicago in the United States with population and crime kill many people at young ages

Today in Class we were introduced to our new unit about population and world growth. Mr. Schick was telling us all about the exponential growth this world is facing when it comes population growth. Its kinda scary to think about how if this continues years from now we would have 14 billion people living on this Earth. However i think we are okay because of the advancements and the brilliant minds making our world better and better each day

Today we took our Unit two test on Cartography. I feel really confident that i brought my grade back up to an A. Which is kinda surprising because I had a pounding headache from the people in the class singing the I-Carly theme song in this class. I think the only one i got wrong on the test was the El Paso Question as i said it came from the the people of Origin. So in other words i'm pretty satisfied with how i did and it will be interesting to see my results when i get them back

10-17-18

Today in Class we reviewed for the test we have tomorrow that could pretty much make or break my grade. I was really nervous about the test, however Mr. Schick told us we could use your maps on the test. Thats really good for me and now after studying i feel really confident. I like Human Geography a lot and i did not think i would. I do have any friends in that class with Hank and stuff being in the normal Human Geo class but i like how Mr. Schick really interprets what we are learning and goes into depth through his personal experiences and not a lot of teachers do that so i give him a lot of credit for his interest and dedication to teaching us.

10-16-18

Today in Class, Mr. Schick was asked by one of my fellow classmates what he thought the future would be like. His response was for us to write a blog analyzing what we think the world will be like when we are his age. I want to start by saying I don't think the climate will get any better, as we are coming farther and farther from the last ice age only resulting in it getting hotter and more humid as we grow older and i honestly don't know a way you can get the earth to stop heating up, however i do think we will solve the problem of global warming to not do as much damage. I see in the years finding trains that can go 500-600 miles apart as a fast way of travel without heights. I also see everything energy saving no coal or other natural sources of energy but harnessing everything from the sun.

Today in Class we reviewed about Location and how you can describe a location on Earth by there Culture through terms like Globalization. We talked about as an example how people in India use Globalization in how there ancestors maybe once lived over in Asia and celebrated their religion and eventually migrated to another country and brought their beliefs and values with them, this is called Globalization, Another way of showing Globalization is through the Spanish and English Colonists finding and settling in the "New World" bringing their values such as their language (English, Spanish, French etc.), religions and or cultures.

10-11-18

Today in Class we reviewed all about what we have learned in the map unit (unit two). It refreshed my mind because i need to get my B up to an A. I never get B's so its kinda annoying that i have dug myself in this hole. We learned all about how technology is developing chips that can be put into kids as a tracker. It has lots of Pros and Cons, as it could be very useful if kids were to go to missing or had been kidnapped. However its also a complete invasion of privacy as if what if the tracker malfunctions? Then someone could "be" somewhere there not. So it would have to be up to the parents but I would not invade my kids privacy.

10-9-18

Today in Class Mr. Schick brought up something that fascinated me so much, he mentioned a little island with only a couple hundred people living on it. They don't use any technology and live off the independence of catching the large population of crabs. However the island has split views as many scientists fear that the shore is slowly sweeping any the land making the island smaller. However many people don't believe it and its really interesting to see how the world without technology and how many do not need anything but a little faith. Mr. Schick also brought up a CNN article and often i don't care for CNN but it was quite interesting when Trump told this island they were going to be okay and thats all they needed to believe it and that shows even more that all people need sometimes is faith.

10-4-18

Today in Class we learned all about Social Studies from the one and only Patrick Simms. I honestly have no idea what we learned yesterday about Locations on a map, but it was pretty interesting and funny to watch Patrick struggle to teach the class. I like the in class discussions we have and i think it makes us think more and understand whats he's teaching us in regards to just writing it down on some paper and completely forgetting about it. Even though i have no friends in his class, its still a really enjoyable 50 minutes with Mr. Schick every mod.

10-3-18

Today in Class we really went in depth about GPS and how it is so beneficial for todays modern society. Mr. Schick had some very good points about location tracking by websites is a dangerous and beneficial thing all together, however some things that were stated I strongly disagree with. The Echo thing really got to me as the class believed that the government was "listing to us through them" which in my opinion is a complete lie. First of all, the company "Amazon" is one of if not the largest company in the world if they were to do something like that it would not go unnoticed as so many people are investigating the company. Amazon also works with the government and for them to do that stuff with the government goes against our country.

10-2-18

Today in Class we got our Units Tests back, its very odd for me to get under a 90 ever but i got a 85 and it brought me down to a B and i'm a little mad but not really. Im pretty confident if i keep my blogs and work up i will be just fine. The thing i took away from class today was something one of Mr. Schicks Chinese exchange student said, a saying i guess. "Everyone in the World is Drunk except me", It really made me think about the Chinese Culture, and how with the world around them that saying to me is really saying "All these Wars and Chaos going on and we are doing well and civilized". To me it shows that the Chinese are an advanced people who have a really unique culture.
