Today in Class we went over Migration a little bit more to get ready for the test on Tuesday. We went over the packet some more and had a conversation and Mr. Schick brought up a company called "T Rowe Price" which happens to be who my mom works for. So it was interesting to see how small of a world we live in that it all connects. I really like Human Geo, i may not have many friends in the class but i like the environment and the way we learn. Im very confident in my next test and I'm going to make a quizlet to review for it tonight.

12-5-18 // Packet Notes
Today our Homework was to record packet notes in our Blog:
The Packet started out comparing the USA to other Countries where immigrants migrate too, the United Nations or UN classifies Countries according to four types of immigration policies
1. maintain the current level of immigration
2. increase the level
3. decrease the level
4. no type
According to the United Nations 21 countries seek more immigrants (2), 32 want fewer (3), 116 wish to maintain the level (1) and 25 do not have a policy (4).
Those who enter a country without proper document or official document, they are considered unauthorized immigrants.
Here are some statistics about Immigration in the United States.
There are 11.3 unauthorized immigrants in the USA and 61% of them have been in the USA for 10 or more years. 8 million of these "illegal immigrants" have jobs. So this raises questions if they are taking jobs from Americans.
The largest number of Immigrants are coming from Mexico. And as of 1990 the Global Quota was 700,000 (Quota is the the number of people who can immigrant in a year)
A problem that raises many questions is the fact that countries take more people through immigrants if there skilled workers, this is called Brain Drain.
Chain Migration: is the migration of people to a specific location because relatives or members of the same nationality previously migrated there.
Here are some of the Migration Policy Disputes that Mexico and the United States
Sanctuary State: a movement in certain states to not enact harsh anti-immigration laws.

Changing US Migration Notes 12/4/18
The United States has a special role in migration as many immigrants have the USA as there first choice or "dream country". As about 80 million people have immigrated to the USA between 1820-2015 and 42 Million of those were still alive at the year of 2015. The United States has had 3 main eras of Migration:
1. Colonial settlement in the 17th and 18th century
2. Mass Europeans immigration in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries
3. Asian and Latin American immigration in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.
The US has a lot of mass migrations, here are some examples in 1840s and 50s many Germans and Irish migrated to escape political unrest. Many migrated to US during WWII, more then 3/4's migrated from one of these two regions during the second world war, Latin America and Asia, most came from China, India, Vietnam and the Philippines
