In Class, Mr. Schick was nice enough to let us finish our maps up and do work from other classes. This gave me the opportunity to listen to Logic's 4th Young Sinatra Mixtape "YSIV" (its amazing by the way). However I'm going to have a hard time remembering the difference between the three maps we learned cause it is a lot to remember. I am confused on why we use the Mercator Map if its completely inaccurate, i just do not understand why we just don't use the Peters Map? Maybe one day we will get it right. We also spent a lot of the class period trying to find Mr. Schicks personal record, i think we made him mad hahaha. Well that was my Friday

Today in Class we learned about the time zones and how maybe it would beneficial to have all places in the world at the same time zone, but then its like what about if you live in China and you now have to adapt to being up your old Night time and sleeping in your old day time. I also learned that there happens to be a 5th ocean, thank you to my North Harford teachers who chose to never tell me this. I wish Mr. Schick would bring human geo in astronomy some way because i love talking about the stars and i think he would be a cool guy to talk to about it.

Today in Class, Mr. Schick showed us maps dating back to before the birth of Christ, and they were quite interesting to look at. Some who had Africa as Lybia and the Mediterranean was thought of as the center of the world. Its really interesting to see how the world gets more advanced and as new powerful civilization begin to be formed and grow and how their knowledge can be put the test to approve upon the world. I think one day when the world changes and the continents shift how to maps and world will be different and what brilliant minds will help shape the world back to how it was

The Cartographers made many valid points throughout the ruffly 4 minute video that shocked me as to why the Peters Projection Map is the most valid map. They start off by talking about how the old map that we are familiar with is a way off in terms of shape. The "Mercator" Map was used as a navigational tool for sailors and focused on enlarging areas of the poles so it created straight lines to show direction throughout the poles. It was never used to be a map to judge the world by its relative size, so they make valid points saying it would be beneficial to have schools use the map. One of the best points they make is that kids are starting to distinguish the bigger the country, the more power they have. So if Maps are showing kids that Greenland is the same size as Africa, they may think its a power country, when Japan who is no were close in size (displayed by the map) is almost 10x more of a powerhouse.

Today in Class, Mr. Schick went all over the fact that sometimes teachers and historians lie to us. He explained the map and how sometimes people get estimates off and thats why our map isn't really the true, he tied this into Christopher Columbus and how we resemble him as an America hero, however he is not. He is responsible for killing about 80% of the civilization and use terrible ways to bring about the settlement of the now United States of American. I think todays class was all about putting things in another perspective about the past and what it was really like because you do not the whole story.

Today, we learned mostly about the actual relative size of a map, it was really astonishing to me that places such as Greenland, Alaska, Australia and almost all of Europe are not as big as we thought they were. In the video Mr. Schick showed us, we learned that Greenland is actually 14x smaller then Africa although the map makes it look like they are almost the same size. He actually brought something to my attention that made me think, saying that there is no direct north on the globe because if beings were to come from any direction they may not have a view that distinctly shows that north we think of as true north. I guess just something new to randomly think about when your bored.

Today we took our first test in Human Geography for Mr. Schick. I forgot some of the questions and I was kinda mad because I don't think I did as well as Math or STEAM. However I'm very interested in the topics of Rome and some of the ancient civilizations. I really hope that we go over more of this in future classes, anything thats from the past really interests me, like Religion or what actually went on thousands years ago on this planet or maybe even other planets. Like could Mars have ever have been a living planet with a whole alien species living on it? If so how did it go extinct? Will it happen to us too? I just love wondering about the past and how scientists today theorize on it.

Today we were supposed to each present a slide in the powerpoint to review for our test on Monday, however Google was not responding so we do not do our schedules Plan. We learned about the layout for the test and write the Essay we have to write is a quote by the Brilliant mind of Socrates: "The unexamined is not worth living." The Quote means until you figure out why you are here, who you are and what you are going to be? Then the life you live is pointless. Socrates tried to get the young minds of Athens to realize this, the whole point of his teachings was to wonder, think, examine the question and the world around you. You were not put here by nothing, god has a plan for you and even though Socrates never had god in his Context, he still was teaching to question life as a whole.

Imagine being one the brightest minds in history and being killed for being that influential to the youth that the Government was scared of you. Because maybe just maybe, the gods you believe in aren't real and there afraid that you'll bright teachings may stop the youth from believing. The man I just described was a Philosopher named Socrates that helped Develop the system of Democracy, and he would die for it...literally he would give up his life and drink poison hemlock instead of escaping because he was sacrificing himself for his true cause, the Athenian Democracy. You need a big heart to give up your life for what you believe in and thats what stood out to me the most.

Today in Class we learned all about the history of democracy and how it all traces back to a man named Socrates, one of the three very important philosophers from Ancient Greek times. Socrates was a stone mason in his early years and eventually went off to fight in the Peloponnesian War. He was a War Hero with his incredible efforts. His working Class background and Battlefield experience shaped the ways he viewed the world. He created something called the "Socrates Method" were he would meet with young students in the Agora to ask them a series of questions to extend their knowledge. Eventually Athens became such a well known place that people were coming from everywhere to learn all about the words of Socrates.

9-7-18 "A Message To Garcia" Interpretation
A Message To Garcia is a story that tries to teach an important lesson to reader. It does not really follow the path about how the message gets to Garcia, however it has a premise around the fact that then man delivered it. This man Rowan did not ask a single question about his task, however he did it. He delivered the message without questioning his boss or giving him a hard time, he did not ask any one else for assistance he did what he was assigned to do. The author then goes and compares you asking a coworker to look something up in the dictionary, saying that your coworker would put it to the side or ask so many questions that you would think he was incapable of doing the task. Or going to get another coworker to do it for him until the all ask each other and it comes back to you. The author is just trying to teach the reader a lesson to be like Rowan and to deliver the Message to Garcia no matter how difficult.

Blog #1, 9/5/18
After my first two days at Jc, I have had a great time. Throughout the summer I did not get to see many people that I wanted too like Evan or Demetri. So its been nice having them in my classes and seeing them again. I thought I was going to nervous around all the kids from Tenth to Twelfth grade, however this has not been the case. Because of Soccer and my cousin being in 10th grade, I know a lot of sophomores and they always say hi to me whenever I see them. Especially my cousin Lauren, Ethan and Chipi from soccer, and all the seniors that know me as "Tyler and Luke's brother's friend Colin." My classes have been enjoyable so far as I like all my teachers, and I love playing soccer right after school. All and all its been a good first two days and I hope its like this for the rest of the year.
