The Cartographers made many valid points throughout the ruffly 4 minute video that shocked me as to why the Peters Projection Map is the most valid map. They start off by talking about how the old map that we are familiar with is a way off in terms of shape. The "Mercator" Map was used as a navigational tool for sailors and focused on enlarging areas of the poles so it created straight lines to show direction throughout the poles. It was never used to be a map to judge the world by its relative size, so they make valid points saying it would be beneficial to have schools use the map. One of the best points they make is that kids are starting to distinguish the bigger the country, the more power they have. So if Maps are showing kids that Greenland is the same size as Africa, they may think its a power country, when Japan who is no were close in size (displayed by the map) is almost 10x more of a powerhouse.
